Overview
OCD is a loop: an intrusive thought or doubt shows up, anxiety spikes, a ritual (checking, washing, asking, replaying, avoiding) brings short relief — then the doubt returns, often louder. The feeling is real. The “must solve it now” alarm is what keeps the cycle going.
People often think OCD only means contamination or checking. Those are two common faces. The same loop can also be unwanted thoughts — including sexual or taboo images that feel shocking and against your values. Having the thought is not the same as wanting it. Other faces include harm fears, relationships, faith, the body, meaning, or “just right.”

Know about this
Unwanted thoughts, images, or doubts pop in without asking. Most people shrug and move on. OCD treats the thought as an emergency — often the one that feels most against your values.

Having it is not the same as wanting it, agreeing with it, or doing it.
Anxiety, checking, replaying, confessing, avoiding. The fight keeps it sticky.
